The Male Perspective

What does it mean to be a man?

Program Description

What does it mean to be a man? As an individual, a partner, a parent, at work.

These days, it can be rather confusing to be a man. While the traditional male role model is being questioned and criticized, there are many competing beliefs and unspoken expectations on men in society. We expect men to be courageous and strong, but also empathic and sensitive. We are expected to be assertive and decisive, but also blamed for being dominant and oppressing.

Conflicting expectations create tension and uncertainty around behavior. How does that impact the way we perceive ourselves? Interact with our partner? Raise our children? Lead others? Fulfill our purpose? In other words, what sort of man do you want to be?

At the end of September (29/09/2022 – 02/10/2022), we will go to Slovenia with a group of 20 men to explore these topics. As with all of our programs, nature will be key in terms of disconnecting from the distractions and noise of our daily lives. Our location is close to a lake, a forest, and the mountains. Using these beautiful surroundings, we will work with the group, as well as having individual reflection.

For four days, you’ll be part of a tribe that allows you to be yourself and to connect with others without masks. Using a combination of coaching, exercises, reflection and tribal rituals, we will connect to our masculinity and reflect on and discover what’s hidden inside. An experience to explore our masculinity and tap into our potential as a human.

We are going to Ukanc, a settlement near Lake Bohinj in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia. According to the legend, the name Ukanc originated from the phrase ‘u konc’ or the end of the world. We simply fell in love with the beautiful nature of Slovenia. Fantastic location to deep dive into the topic of masculinity.

We aim to have approximately 16 participants, and 4 coaches. The program is open to men from all backgrounds & age groups. We prefer to have a diverse group, to enable exchange and learn from each other.

Our team consists of multiple coaches with varying backgrounds & expertises. See our team page for more details. Our academic advisor Dr. Meir Shemla, who is specialised in diversity topics, will be closely involved for this program specifically.

After filling in the registration form, we will send an invoice. We understand that it might be a big investment to make, therefore we also offer payment in instalments. Please contact us in case of any questions.
